The Deans report out

Following their late Saturday session, the deans from Mainland China and Hong Kong reported on Sunday morning to the plenary session how they responded to the two questions put to the entire group:

  1. How do your students use media in their work and daily lives?
  2. What resources does your school need to prepare students for the future?

A Venn diagram of answers to "How do your students use media in their work and daily lives?"

We created a Venn diagram of the responses to the first question.  As that diagram demonstrates, there was considerable overlap in the deans’ understanding of their students’ consumption of media and their interest in news.  The assumptions about how students access news and information and how engaged they are with news will be explored in a study to be launched by the Salzburg Academy partner universities this fall, including, we hope, Chinese universities on the mainland and in Hong Kong.
